Make way for LibreELEC 8.0.0!

Just weeks after Kodi unveiling the new iteration for its stalwart open-source media center - Kodi 17 (Krypton) - LibreELEC announces its latest stable version, LibreELEC (Krypton) v8.0.0.

How is this important, you might ask.

“How is this important?”

I’m glad you asked.

LibreELEC is what is called a JeOS, which we explain in detail here. Being “Just Enough OS for Kodi,” this new version comes unexpectedly as a means to keep up with Kodi’s latest stable version.

According to LibreELEC, the 8.0.0 release contains many small refinements to the user experience and a complete overhaul of the underlying OS core to enhance stability and extend hardware support.

Some of the changes that directly affect WeTek products owners are as follows

  • Fix for TVheadend issues in the WeTek Play 2 DVB driver
  • Fix for interactive governor causing slowdown issues on the WeTek Core
  • Update WeTek Play 2 remote keymap to expose more buttons

You can find further information and installation instructions on LibreELEC’s own downloads page.
