What is Mobile Device Management

Over the course of the last twenty years, mobile devices have become an integral part of the modern workplace, increasing business productivity and flexibility. The downside to this is that, if unmanaged, they can pose a serious threat to the company’s security and be a high risk for efficiency, that is why it is vital to control the visibility of these devices and have a standardized way to manage them.

Mobile Device Management (MDM) is the best way to create a secure and efficient mobile device network for your company. The term refers to the administration of mobile devices, but the technology some companies offer, like WeTek, can extend the same basic principles to such different devices, such as Set-top Boxes, Tablets, Smartphones or even Interactive Kiosks. Putting it very simply, it is the process of managing the entire lifecycle of devices, but going one step further, it has the potential to enhance a whole service’s client experience.

Mobile Device Management can be achieved by the implementation of MDM software, such as WeBoxControl. Using it, companies can manage, monitor and secure their devices to ensure maximum performance from their operation. This software can run either on-site or in the cloud, but this second option is the most commonly used, as it brings versatility to the number of users and locations able to access the main console.

Once the software has been deployed to the company and ready to use, it’s up for whoever is in charge of administering these devices, to push the configurations and apps needed to each batch. This is done Over the Air (OTA), which means there is no need for physical proximity to these devices, just an internet connection.

Which are the main benefits of MDM?

Control over all company devices

pulling valuable usage data and increasing their visibility. IT teams are able to see which devices are in use, check their security level and minimize risks.

Control the entirety of the device’s lifecycle
configuring them remotely and handling updates as they are needed, even managing to handle replacements a lot more efficiently. If a device handed to an employee needs to change hands, its whole information can be wiped out and prepared for the next user.

Protect devices and data
Tablets and smartphones are much more vulnerable to cyber attacks than any other device. MDM offers an effective way to
protect these devices and the data in them, as well as staying compliant with data protection regulations, such as GDPR.

Automate device enrolments and configurations,
saving your whole operation much precious time and, even more importantly, money. This is especially true when handling multiple devices and human error is a much higher risk.

Reduce investment on operations
you will now be able to automate and increase human productivity, no longer allocating tasks directly connected to the provisioning of the devices. Anything can be pre-configured from day one.
